A Day in the Life of an Alleghany Counselor!

Pre-Reveille: If you wish, you may exercise and/or shower before 7:30am. This is a counselor privilege only and you must be quiet if you do this. Counselor Lodge, phones, etc. are off limits. OR—you can just sleep til 7:30!
7:30am Reveille (time to wake up!); help campers get up, have them get dressed, make beds, begin cleaning tent.
8:10 Breakfast (wear long-sleeves!)
8:45 Clean up tent for Inspection
9:15 Assembly in the Playhall—sit with your campers, sing songs, make any announcements you need to make regarding your department/activity
10:00 First Activity Period (teach in your assigned department)
11:00 Second Activity Period (teach in your assigned department)
12:00pm Tent Time—this is tent time with your campers, a time when they receive mail, shower, possibly go to free swim. Because this time is unstructured (and they may or may not be receiving mail from home) it’s an important time for you to be with them and give them support. Play games, hang out, do something together as a tent. Napping at this hour is strictly prohibited, and the Counselor Lodge is off-limits.
1:00 Lunch
1:45-3:00 Rest Hour (quiet on tent row)
3:10 Third Activity Period (teach in your assigned department)
4:10 Fourth Activity Period (teach in your assigned department)
5:00 Free Time—this time you may go to the Counselors Lodge or the docks if you wish. If you have younger campers, be certain they are set for dinner (blues and whites) before you leave tent row. If one of your campers has had a bad day it will be important to spend some time with her before heading to the Counselors Lodge, or simply stay on tent row that day during free time.
6:15 Dinner
7:30 Evening Activity—come prepared to sit with or participate with your campers!
8:45 Milk and Cookies—accompany your campers (dressed in their PJs) to the Playhall if in Junior Camp or the Store if in Senior Camp.
9:20 20-minute warning for Junior Camp (all junior campers must be in their tent at this time)
9:35 5-minute warning for Junior Camp (all junior campers must be in bed with lights out—may still talk though)
9:40 Taps for Junior Camp; this is Senior Camp 20-minute warning (all senior campers must be in their tent at this time)
9:55 Senior Camp 5-minute warning
10:00 Senior Camp Taps
**once you are released by the person on patrol, you may leave your tent and spend time in the Counselor’s Lodge, the Arts and Crafts Lodge, or the docks. Please be quiet during these times since the campers are sleeping.
